Hong Kong 97 (Happysoft 1995 Snes)

Probably one of the most obscure (and offensive) SNES games ever developed. This game was distributed by a company called Happysoft. This was there only game they made before vanishing into nothingness. This game gets weird as soon as you turn it on where you are greeted with a message by Happysoft themselves looking for people to sell their games and a upbeat endlessly looping version of I Love Beijing Tiananmen (The only audio in the game). As far as the story goes the screen shots do a good job of that. The overall game is a horrible shooter than can result in instant death upon starting and with upgrades that kill you and a syringe (Steroids??) that gives you immunity. When you die in this game you are greeted with a picture of a corpse with the words “Chin is dead” in bloody letters. Surprisingly the game depicts actual historic even two years before it happened (The death of Deng Xiaoping)

If you have the time you should find a rom of this game and try it yourself, Lot’s of communism fun!

I finished Sleeping Dogs over the weekend and what a great experience. The voice acting was top notch. Really great story. Excellent gameplay. I loved all the little mini-games from Karaoke to safe cracking.

The story was really well done. I felt the pressure of being undercover and getting attached to the gang, and having the confusions with morality. Not an easy thing for a game to accomplish within someone.

I definitely suggest picking this one up if you like good story and GTA style gameplay with much tighter everything.

I’m quite sure this was the North American Platinum prize...
